The Argyle International Airport (AIA), now under construction, is an important infrastructure for St Vincent and the Grenadines. The construction of the airport is to address the transportation difficulties that have hindered tourism in the 32-island archipelago.
When completed, AIA will have a paved runway 9,000 feet (2,743 meters) long and 150 feet (45 meters) wide. It will be able to accommodate planes as large as a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. The airport, which is expected to be operational by mid-2015, is being built at an estimated cost of US $260 million.
