The Brig Unicorn, the pirate ship used in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sank off Georgetown, St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The vessel, with its Captain and nine crew members, left St Lucia May 23rd, 2014 some time after 2:00AM, but just as the vessel neared the North end of St Vincent tragedy struck.
The most famous current-day pirate ship was sailing from St Lucia en route to St Vincent for repairs when she encountered difficulties and sank.
The crew said the vessel had been shaking as if it had hit something. The vessel started to take in water rapidly and the crew was unable to pump it out with all the water pumps on board.
Captain Sam Alleyne and the other nine crew members were rescued by the St. Vincent Coast Guard.
The 148 foot Brig Unicorn used in two of the Pirates of the Caribbean films starring Johnny Depp, played The Henrietta in The Curse Of The Black Pearl and The Terrasaw in Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End.
Movie buffs of the Disney films may recall that some scenes of the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was filmed in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
